Fishing Reports

As I write this, summer has arrived on Speyside! It’s such a beautiful time of year to be out on the river. 🙂 However, it didn’t look exactly like that at the start of last… 

May-fishing certainly has a different feel to it this season!  With the Jet-stream blocked over mainland Europe,  our weather patterns have been dominated by cold air and unsettled conditions.  This has resulted in more rain… 

There was certainly no shortage of water last week. Rain and snowmelt in the catchment kept the river flowing above normal levels most days – dropping to just over 1ft by the end of the… 

That old Scottish saying – “never cast a clout till May is out” (which translates to “never put your warms clothes away until May is past) is certainly relevant this year!  Who could have predicted… 

With travel restrictions finally lifted, the river resumed “normal” service.  Most beats were back to welcoming their usual angling parties while the Association waters were delighted to see an uptake in permit sales from visiting… 

It was another very sunny week on Speyside. This is never “ideal” conditions for fishing but after a winter of lockdown and indoor pursuits, a bit of spring sunshine should always be welcomed – and,… 

Springtime finally arrived on Speyside and things are hotting up!  With a week of beautiful weather and long sunny days, both air and water temperatures were on there rise – Time for a floating line… 

As far as the weather goes, it certainly felt more like winter than spring on the river last week.  We had snow, hail, freezing air temps and cold winds most days  –  it was certainly… 

Springtime in Scotland is always a mix of weather.  It can change greatly from one day to the next, let alone within a week. In-fact there’s an old saying that aptly defines our weather patterns…
